Forests contain 80% of all life on land and cover around 30% of the Earth’s land area. They help regulate our climate, purify the air we breathe, and provide the water we drink’ (WWF and Ikea Forest Programme 2018).
As a company who’s manufacturing output is largely wood based it’s important to us that we are committed to doing our bit to protect the world’s forests. Commonfield see’s responsible wood sourcing as an industry standard and will only ever buy wood products from FSC accredited companies who source from responsibly managed forests.
The FSC was founded in 1990 by forest owners, timber industries, social groups and environmental agencies and was set up as an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organisation. It’s a worldwide organisation promoting the improvement of forest management through a set of ten criteria. It’s growing in brand recognition year on year with more and more companies signing up and committing to transparent supply chains who are FSC certified.
Commonfield are proud to be an FSC accredited company and every 5 years completes the assessment process to check we are up to date with best practise. We recently passed our audit in November and are really pleased to continue our association with FSC and the positive impact they are having on the planet. We couldn’t have done this without the help of everyone in the team, in particular Julia Childs who is new to the role of ISO Manager at Commonfield and made sure our assessor had all the information they needed to complete the assessment on the day.
